More Jozi horse race

The Gauteng SANSUI Summer Cup is the power, the pace and the pulse of an esteemed legacy of thoroughbred horse racing in Johannesburg. This sophisticated social and sporting event is Johannesburg’s oldest and most respected first-grade horse race, hosted annually at the lush Turffontein Racecourse.

It is through ongoing partnerships with the likes of SANSUI, The Gauteng Tourism Authority and Racing. It’s A Rush, that the legacy of this esteemed equestrian and fashion affair is able to go from strength to strength each year.

With a total of 12 races run over the course of the day and early evening, and a staggering stake of R2 million being contested from in the main race, this truly is Jozi’s premier horse racing and social event. The 2014 Gauteng SANSUI Summer Cup set a new precedent for what can, a should be expected at this event, and with the bar raised high, we look incredibly forward to 2015.

Turffontein Racecourse was built in 1887 when the Summer Cup was first run and is one of South Africa’s premier horseracing venues. This challenging track is steeped in history, with the sport of kings delighting its crowds over the years.

Indoors, glass-fronted rooms give a spectacular view of the track and Johannesburg’s iconic skyline. Celebrating the glorious local climate, manicured gardens make a lovely picnic venue. Race-goers can get up close with horses and jockeys as they saddle up in the parade ring. The vibrant colours of the jockey’s silks and elegant fashions worn by race-goers all add to the glamour.
