Turffontein Racecourse was built in 1887 when the Summer Cup was first run, and is one of South Africa’s premier horseracing venues. This challenging track is steeped in history. Indoors, glass-fronted rooms give a spectacular view of the track and Johannesburg’s iconic skyline. Celebrating the glorious local climate, manicured gardens make a lovely picnic venue. Race-goers can get up close with horses and jockeys as they saddle up in the parade ring. The vibrant colours of silks and elegant fashions worn by race-goers at big meetings such as the Gauteng SANSUI Summer Cup all add to the glamour.
